COLLEEN MC CLUSKEY

"Flamingo Melody "

Violin

When I first began working on Flamingo Melody I wasn't certain what the design for the piece should be because I hadn't ever done a project like it before. However, I was soon inspired by the flamingo-like silhouette of the s-shaped holes on the front of the violin. I painted the instrument pink, and then drew around the holes to make them resemble the birds even more.  After that, I continued with the flamingo motif, and added swirls, musical notes, and abstract shapes to enhance the design. If you like birds, abstract designs, or just plain pink, Flamingo Melody is for you!

My name is Colleen McCluskey. I am fifteen years old, and I live in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. I have been interested in art and design for a very long time. I really enjoy drawing, painting, and sculpture, along with digital artwork and collage. This summer, I believe I have made good progress with my art, such as entering four pieces in the local county fair and getting three blue ribbons, one best in show, and one white ribbon. I have also had my writing published in Teen Ink, a writers' magazine targeted at adolescent authors and poets. I am grateful to the Conservatory for acknowledging my work and giving me the opportunity to be part of this important project.
