- Degrees: Shelly Bitner is a full-time student at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point pursuing a degree in Music Education, General & Choral, K-12.
- Performances: She has appeared in opera productions at the university playing such roles as "Ma Moss" in The Tender Land, and as "Special Guest" in Die Fledermaus. In addition, she has sung in the university's opera choruses. Shelly sings in the university's Concert Choir under the direction of Lucinda Thayer. She appeared as "Frau Schmidt" and was a part of the "Nuns Chorus" in Wausau Community Theatre's Fall 2009 production of The Sound of Music. Locally, Shelly is a member of Wausau Lyric Choir and is often a soloist with the group. She is a past member of Wausau Pro Musica and appeared as a soloist with that group as well.
Shelly has taught vocal and flute lessons through the university's Arts Outreach program. Her current voice teacher is Susan Bender and her current piano teacher is Dr. Molly Roseman. She has also been in the WCM studios of Karen Juliano (voice), Barbara Lattimer (voice), Jacob Roseman (flute), and Dr. Lily Chia Brissman (piano). She has won numerous music scholarships and awards and maintains a very high GPA. Shelly has sung in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competitions and has been a semi-finalist. She also has appeared in recital with Karen Juliano and once filled in for Professor Susan Bender as soloist for a university concert when Prof. Bender became ill. She has sung in master classes for Bud Beyer, Robert Barefield, and Jeremy Silver. She is the Chancel and Bell Choir director at Wesley United Methodist Church and sings and/or plays flute for many area weddings, funerals, and in local churches for services. You will also find Shelly serving as the bookkeeper and staff support person at the Wausau Conservatory of Music (part-time) after serving for six years as Registrar before heading back to college for her music degree. She enjoys singing and playing a wide variety of repertoire.
