Julie Burgess is a graduate of Carroll University with a degree in Music Education with a Piano/Vocal emphasis. She has taught in Milwaukee, West Allis, and is currently the Director of Choral Activities at DC Everest Middle School and is Choral Director/Organist at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church. She has worked with students in the Wausau area as an accompanist, has worked at Wausau East and been involved both as musician and director of the orchestras for their musical productions and in the past has been a piano instructor for WCM.
At WCM, Mrs. Burgess is director of the Conservatory's two Choral groups, Choraliers and Choralation. Under her direction, Choraliers, a choir of 5th through 7th graders, has performed locally with the Central Wisconsin School of Ballet's production of "The Nutcracker", Allegro Dance Company's production of "Beauty and the Beast" and Wausau West's production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". They have traveled to Chicago twice and were part of Heritage Festival's Choral performances and most recently to Denver, Colorado, to be a part of the Mile High Children's Choral Festival.
Choralation, a group of 8th-12th graders, was formed by Mrs. Burgess and Susan Szmanda in 2003. Since then they have performed locally with John Greiner, Wausau Lyric Choir and The Wausau Symphony. They perform a Madrigal Wassail each year in December in full period costume. Choralation has made three trips to sing in New York City, twice at Carnegie Hall and once at Lincoln Center and have performed with conductors Stephen Alltop, John Rutter and Eric Whitacre. Mrs. Burgess lives by these words:
"Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear; just SING...SING A SONG!!!"
