Enrollment
In General
Private lessons are offered on a semester basis, 17 weeks for lessons; classes and ensembles vary. If space is available, students may be admitted any time during the year, though registration is best completed during the stated Registration period.
For Traditional Division Students — All semester lesson scheduling or any aspect of registration is done only through the Registrar.
For Suzuki Division Students — Scheduling is done by the teacher in consultation with the Registrar.
While you may begin the registration process on the phone, it is best to visit our office in person. Some ensembles require a placement audition: be sure to read the course descriptions carefully.
Program Cancellation
The Wausau Conservatory of Music reserves the right to cancel programs with insufficient enrollment. All classes and ensembles will meet for their first scheduled session. In the event that a class is then cancelled, you will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another class, if available. If you do not choose to enroll in another class, you will receive a full refund.
Priority Registration
Every aspect of life at Wausau Conservatory of Music is supported by the giving. The revenue needed to run an organization like the Conservatory comes from the annual contributions of donors, in addition to endowment income and tuition. These gifts help pay for scholarships, faculty recruitment, free concerts and classes, library resources, competitions, recitals, technology, security, and maintenance. Giving provides the lifeblood for WCM day-to-day activities.
Registration is on a first-come first-served basis. For Spring and Summer Semesters, priority will be given to continuing students if your registration is received by the posted deadlines (August 22 for Fall Semester; January 12 for Spring Semester and May 27 for Summer Semester). After the posted deadlines, all registrations will be on a first-come first-served basis.
Registration is best done in person and should be completed during the published registration weeks. Continuing students may call the office to arrange for a lesson time, but payment must be made by the payment deadline for each semester or the lesson time will be forfeited. Continuing students will be sent instructions for Spring semester. It is assumed that continuing students will maintain the same lesson time for Spring semester unless a request for a change is made or Spring semester payment is not made by the expressed deadline.
Continuing students desiring or anticipating a change of teacher for Spring semester of study should come to the office to complete re-registration by the end of the normal semester's registration period preceding the beginning of lessons.
AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE that registration is not considered complete until completed registration form is received, fees and tuition are paid in full, or tuition payment is arranged for. We do however, now accept VISA, Mastercard and DISCOVER for tuition payments. An installment payment plan is also available through monthly deductions from a savings or checking account through your bank. Contact the Conservatory Registrar for specifics.
Registration for new students will be accepted at any time if space is available. Please call (715) 845-6279, extension 102 for information on how to register. This is best done during the registration weeks, although the Conservatory will admit new students at any time. Assignment of students to teachers is the ultimate responsibility of the Director. However, student preference for a specific teacher will be honored whenever possible.
Special Students
Students with special needs may arrange for occasional lessons with a faculty member at the teacher’s discretion. Lessons of this nature must be approved by the Director. The cost is 15% more than the semester hourly rate for the teacher requested, plus a special $10 registration fee.
